Suran Song in Stag Infuse the Attitude, Ideology and Aesthetic of Pure Punk Rock into Indie Rock by Bob Weyersberg, Triage International
Bob Weyersberg, Triage International – 5/23/04
For nearly 10 years, Suran Song in Stag has been infusing the attitude, ideology and aesthetic of pure punk rock into their own wide ranging style of indie rock. Everything they do – from how they live, how they tour, how they play, what they sing about – would make Jello Biafra blush in it’s anti-corporate, anti-conformist, and honest populist purpose. Musically, they favor a stripped down, straight ahead approach, with accent on vocals/lyrics and bass driven melodies, a la Minutemen/Mike Watt and Gang of Four, who they like to cover live, and who count high on their list of influences, both musically and politically. Streetwise art-school-poli-pop-punk with just enough funk.
