Brooklyn’s Suran Song in Stag will play at the Melody Inn on Friday night. The art-pop group combines psychedelia with post-punk music and several other genres that haven’t been named yet. Their performance-art antics sometimes overshadow the fact that this is a very good band. Poet/frontwoman Suran Song is a charismatic figure whose lyrics explore modern-day life in an original way.
On their new disc, Kitty Igloo & The Plastic Stereo, the songs range from insightful (“Surveillance Camera Actors”) to angry (“Let’s Just Go Eat Cake”) and back again. Look for their newest live shows to feature the same combination of rock and roll frenzy with avant-garde multimedia.
