The Rustbelt is most often thought to include New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Great Lakes Canada. Although regional in the nature of content, Rustbelt:REDUX includes national artists who have migrated away from the Rustbelt as their exodus is also an important aspect of the the Rustbelt experience.

Showcased are works of art that capture the American experience of life during the decades following the decline of industry, from the mid-1970’s to beyond the turn of the millennium. These works of art range from the political and visionary, to the destructive and apocalyptic. They interrogate the consequences of heavy industry decline, the disappearance of main street and subsequent rise of hyper consumerism and gentrification, general life — artistic, social, work, family, otherwise, and the state of being caught between changes with juxtapositions of old and new.
