Suran Song in Stag/Bad Karma/Ff/
Court Tavern/Feb. 9

My main reason for checking out this show as the new project by performance artist Suran Song called STAG. I didn’t really know what to expect but I had seen a video of her earlier work, so I had a rough idea what she was about.

Two of the band members, guitarist Dave Urbano and drummer Claude Coleman (of WEEN fame) were donning Superman outfits complete with red capes. Bassist Bil Weis was dressed head to toe in white thermals with rubber nipples glued to his forehead while Suran, also garbed in white had her whole head covered in a white bonded-style mask.

They opened with “Kissing Judice” while a slide projector made great use of her white outfit by flashing visions of various females and images across it. The songs were very soothing and hypnotic with light, airy vocals and I watched as the crowd seemed to become mesmerized. Suran put on another mask complete with long blonde locks as the band went into my favorite STAG song, “No Don’t Stop,” and a cover of Redd Kross’ “Jimmy’s Fantasy.” Keep your eyes on this act for sure.
